How to Use Your VIN to Find the Right Part

Use your VIN to accurately identify your vehicle’s configuration and ensure you get the correct part the first time.

Your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is the most accurate and reliable way to ensure you get the correct part for your vehicle. Because many vehicles have multiple drivetrain variations, even within the same year and model, using your VIN helps eliminate guesswork.

What Is a VIN?

A VIN is a unique 17-character code assigned to your vehicle. It contains detailed information about how your vehicle was built at the factory.

Your VIN can typically be found:

  • On the driver’s side dashboard (visible through the windshield)

  • Inside the driver’s door jamb

  • On your vehicle registration or insurance documents

What Your VIN Tells Us

When you provide your VIN, we can identify key details about your vehicle, including:

  • Engine type

  • Transmission

  • Transfer case

  • Axle configuration

  • Wheelbase

  • Factory-installed drivetrain components

This allows us to match you with the exact part designed for your vehicle’s original configuration.

When to Use Your VIN

We strongly recommend using your VIN when:

  • Ordering a driveshaft or axle

  • You are unsure of your vehicle’s exact configuration

  • There are multiple part options listed for your vehicle

  • You want to avoid fitment issues or returns

For most OEM (stock) vehicles, the VIN is all we need—no measurements required.

Important: Modified Vehicles

If your vehicle has been modified, your VIN will still give us the factory configuration—but it may not reflect your current setup.

Be sure to let us know if your vehicle has:

  • Lift kits (especially over 4 inches)

  • Transmission or transfer case swaps

  • Axle swaps

  • Custom suspension or drivetrain changes

In these cases, additional information or measurements may be required.

How to Provide Your VIN

You can provide your VIN when:

  • Placing your order (if prompted)

  • Contacting our customer service team

  • Requesting help with part selection

Make sure the VIN is entered accurately, as even one incorrect character can result in the wrong part being identified.

Why Using Your VIN Matters

Using your VIN helps:

  • Ensure proper fitment

  • Reduce returns and delays

  • Prevent ordering the wrong part

  • Improve overall performance and reliability
